Description
Some basses chase trends. The L-2500 chases history “” specifically, the last chapter of Leo Fender’s design career, when he was cooking up Magnetic Field Design pickups and the Saddle Lock bridge for his new G&L brand. This reissue brings back the original CLF/G&L headstock shape and neck profile, along with reproduced aluminum CLF knobs and a chrome control plate that houses the Tri-Tone Preamp, right down to the color-coded mini toggle tips.
Under the hood, the Tri-Tone active preamp gives you real control over your low end: dedicated Treble and Bass controls, a Series/Parallel selector, and a 3-position switch that handles preamp on/off plus a treble boost. That’s enough range to go from thumping fingerstyle funk to slap-heavy fusion runs to a growling metal tone, without swapping instruments mid-set.
Choose your finish based on your tone and look preference:
- Old School Tobacco Sunburst over Swamp Ash, with a Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Purpleburst over Swamp Ash, with a maple fingerboard
Every L-2500 still comes out of the historic G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California “” the same building where Leo Fender set up CLF Research and where G&L basses have been built since the company’s founding in 1980. For players who want a working bass with a direct line back to one of the instrument’s original architects, this is it.
