Description
Ovation took its signature bowl-back design and reworked it specifically for bass duty with the B778TX-5-G Elite TX. The mid-depth Lyrachord body sidesteps the bulk of a full-size acoustic bass while still moving plenty of air, thanks in part to the multi-soundhole layout cut into the upper bout. That configuration isn’t just cosmetic — it changes how the top breathes and helps even out the response across the low end, so notes don’t get swallowed or boomy depending on where you’re fretting.
Up top sits a solid A-grade Sitka spruce panel, chosen for its ability to translate string energy into a clear, balanced voice rather than a muddy wash. Because the Lyrachord shell is lightweight, the whole instrument stays manageable on longer gigs or sessions where you’re playing seated with the bass resting against your body for hours.
The maple neck carries a low-profile shape, making it easier to move around the fretboard on a 5-string without your hand fighting the instrument. For plugged-in work, Ovation’s OCP-1K pickup sits under the saddle picking up the actual vibration of the strings, and it feeds into the OP-Pro onboard preamp so you can dial in EQ and volume right at the bass before you even reach the front-of-house mixer.
