Five-string basses often force a compromise on spacing, but the L-1000 Series 750 refuses to make you choose. G&L built this one around 19mm (3/4″) string spacing at the bridge — the exact same feel as their four-string basses — using the “Wide 5” Saddle Lock bridge plate, which houses five of those identical four-string saddles. All that extra real estate gets wrapped into a new, curvier body shape rooted in classic Fender Avenue design language.
Under the hood, a new MFD humbucker was reworked to its largest footprint yet, engineered specifically to keep harmonic detail intact while still pulling full, deep energy out of that low B. It’s a pickup built for players who need the fifth string to sound as alive as the other four, not just louder.
Everywhere else, the Widebody Wunkay leans into heritage. The early CLF/G&L headstock sits atop a slim, rounded neck reinforced with a true dual-action truss rod plus twin graphite rods for stability under tension. Chunky CLF machined knobs, a sweeping control plate, and a three-position mini-toggle bring back the switching options G&L players have relied on since 1980 — including the coil-splitting “OMG” mode on the L-1000.
