Description
If you’ve been eyeing a 5-string but don’t want to sacrifice punch or playability to get the low B, the Schecter J-5 is worth a serious look. It’s a 2019 update to the J-5 line, aimed at giving working bassists a genuinely professional instrument at a price that doesn’t sting.
The heart of this bass is its fully-passive electronics: a set of Custom Shop USA-Made Monstertone-J pickups loaded with Ceramic-8 magnets. Straight out of the box they’re voiced hot and aggressive, but flip the push-pull tone pot and you’re into warmer, more vintage-leaning territory. One bass, two distinct personalities — useful when your set list swings from modern to old-school in the same night.
Under your fretting hand is a 35” scale thin-C maple neck, reinforced with dual carbon fiber rods for long-term stability, plus an easy-access truss rod so setup adjustments don’t turn into a chore. Paired with an alder body, the combo lands in that classic sweet spot — comfortable to hold for long sets, and it sits in a mix without a fight.
Hardware is chosen to keep you playing, not troubleshooting:
- Schecter Diamond Custom bridge with thru-body or top-load stringing options
- Graph Tech IvoryTusq nut
- Schecter Vintage Tuners
Finished in Sea Foam Green, this J-5 is built to handle the low end with authority while staying comfortable enough to live in your hands night after night. Case sold separately.
