The Ray4 takes the classic Music Man growl and puts it within reach without cutting corners on the stuff that matters to working bassists. The solid hardwood body sits under a 34″ maple neck built for full scale-length punch, and the 6-bolt neck joint – a Music Man design – keeps everything locked tight so your tone transfers cleanly instead of getting lost at the joint, even under heavy right-hand attack.
Under the hood is a high-output humbucking pickup with two rows of large pole pieces, feeding into an active 2-band preamp with independent bass and treble cut/boost. That means you can go from a tight, aggressive slap tone to something round and vintage-flavored without swapping instruments. The 3-screw pickup mounting lets you fine-tune height and angle to match your string set precisely.
Practical touches matter on gig night. The neck heel is carved for easy upper-fret access, the truss rod adjusts via a thumbwheel at the end of the fingerboard – no tools, no string removal, adjust on the fly between songs. The 9-volt battery compartment for the preamp is a simple flip-open door on the back, so a quick change backstage takes seconds. Unplug when you’re done to stretch the battery life.
