Description
Ampeg built the Portaflex name on rigs that shook rooms without demanding a roadie, and the PF-800 keeps that tradition alive at a fraction of the bulk. Under the hood you get a MOSFET preamp feeding a Class D power section, so you’re getting that classic Ampeg growl and warmth without hauling around a fridge-sized head. Pair it with a couple of Portaflex cabs and you’ve got a vintage-flavored stack that still fits in a hatchback.
The tone-shaping is deep enough for tone chasers but simple enough to dial in fast in a dark club. Bass, mid, and treble controls work alongside a 5-position mid selector and Ultra Hi/Lo boosts to carve out everything from round vintage thump to modern, cutting attack. There’s an onboard compressor to keep your low end controlled without squashing your dynamics, plus a pre/post EQ option on the balanced direct out for flexible front-of-house or recording connections.
Practical touches make this head genuinely gig-ready: a footswitchable FX loop with its own mix control, footswitchable mute, a headphone out that doubles as a line in for silent practice, and both -15 dB input pad and -40 dB pad for taming hot signals. A ground lift and power amp in/preamp out round out the connectivity for more complex setups.
