Description
Flea didn’t design this bass to sit politely in the mix – he built it to punch through a stadium PA while he’s jumping around like the floor’s on fire. The custom-contoured Jazz Bass body houses a single Fender custom humbucking pickup wired into an Aguilar OBP-1 18-volt preamp, so you’ve got serious headroom and a growl that stays tight even when you’re slapping hard or digging in with a pick. Volume, treble, and bass controls let you shape that output without losing the punch.
The quartersawn maple neck carries a friendly “C” profile that suits fingerstyle, pick, or slap playing equally well, and the custom-carved heel means the upper frets aren’t a stretch. Fender’s 12-16″ compound-radius maple fingerboard keeps the low end comfortable while letting chords and lead runs up top feel just as natural, backed by 22 medium jumbo frets and a bone nut for tuning that actually holds under aggressive playing.
Under the hood: a 4-saddle HiMass bridge for extra sustain, a vintage-style disc string tree, lightweight vintage tuners with tapered shafts, and a 5-bolt asymmetrical neck plate stamped with Flea’s own artwork. The satin polyurethane finish on the alder body and neck keeps things low-key visually while the Shell Pink color makes sure nobody forgets whose bass this is.
