The Jazz Bass has been the workhorse for session players and touring bassists since 1960, and the American Professional version keeps that legacy honest while tightening up everything that matters on stage and in the studio. This one comes in black with an alder body and a maple neck, cut in a slim “Modern C” profile that sits comfortably in your fretting hand through long sets.
At the heart of the tone are two V-Mod single-coil Jazz Bass pickups, designed by Michael Bump using a specific blend of alnico magnets. Expect that punchy, high-output Jazz Bass signature u2014 vintage warmth up front, crisp top-end clarity that cuts through a mix without sounding brittle. Volume controls for each pickup plus a master tone let you dial in everything from a fat, rounded neck-pickup thump to that classic scooped bridge snarl.
Playability gets real attention here too. The 9.5″ radius maple fingerboard is fitted with narrow-tall frets, which make note bends and up-the-neck chord work feel more precise than on vintage-spec jumbo frets. Posiflex graphite rods run beneath the fingerboard to fight neck warping from humidity and temperature swings u2014 handy if you’re gigging in different rooms every week. The fluted-shaft tuning machines pull string windings down tight for a cleaner break angle over the bone nut, which translates to better sustain and tuning that actually holds through a set.
Rounding it out: a 4-saddle HiMass vintage bridge for stability and that old-school look, a bone nut, and nickel/chrome hardware. It ships in a hardshell Elite Molded Case with TSA latches, so it’s ready to travel the day it leaves the shop.
