If you play a 5-string, you already know most PJ sets are just an afterthought squeezed onto a wider neck. The EMG P5J was built from the ground up for 5-string, pairing a full P pickup with a single LJ coil so both units track evenly across the extra low B without losing definition.
The P side delivers that thick, woody low-end power players lean on for a Motown pocket or a straight-ahead groove. The LJ adds midrange bite and top-end clarity, sharpening your attack for slap, fingerstyle, or anything that needs to cut through a dense mix. Run them together or blend to taste – either way, you get an active, noiseless signal that stays consistent set after set, no matter how hot the stage lights get or how loud the room is.
Note: the bridge Jazz pickup is standard length (3.75″) with a max string spacing of 2.75″ – worth checking against your bridge before you order.
