Description
Some basses chase trends. The Fullerton Deluxe JB isn’t one of them — it leans into the qualities that made the JB platform a mainstay on countless stages and studio sessions, then quietly upgrades the parts that matter to your hands and ears.
Every version here starts with a resonant alder body (except the Purpleburst, which runs on swamp ash), topped with a pickguard chosen to complement the finish rather than just match it. The neck is where G&L’s craftsmanship really shows: a slim hard-rock maple neck in a vintage gloss finish, wearing a G&L Clear Tint Satin treatment that feels broken-in from day one. A 9 1/2″ fingerboard radius and Jescar 57110 medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets mean fast lines and clean bends translate the same across the whole neck.
Under the hood, the Alnico single-coil pickups deliver that ‘”holy grail”‘ JB tone — punchy, articulate, and dynamic enough to sit anywhere in a mix. Leo Fender’s Saddle-Lock bridge design routes string energy straight into the body’s end-grain, giving the whole instrument a liveliness you can feel through the strap.
Available finishes and configurations:
- 3-Tone Sunburst over Alder, 3-ply tortoise pickguard, Caribbean Rosewood or Maple fingerboard
- Jet Black over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, Caribbean Rosewood or Maple fingerboard
- Himalayan Blue over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard
- Purpleburst over Swamp Ash, 3-ply black pickguard, Maple fingerboard
Built at the original G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — the Birthplace of Bolt-on — this is a working bassist’s instrument through and through.
