Description
If your J-bass neck pickup sounds a little closed-off up top, the 59CBJS-S3 is Bartolini’s answer for 5-string setups. It’s a drop-in replacement sized for the neck position, and it’s built for players who want more clarity and sparkle on the high strings while keeping the low end full and controlled — critical on a 5-string where that low B needs to stay tight, not muddy.
This is part of Bartolini’s Classic Bass series, a passive design that pushes the frequency range wider than a stock pickup, giving you that extra “air” and top-end definition without sacrificing lows or low-mids. Inside, it uses a dual in-line humcanceling coil layout for dead-quiet, noise-free performance on stage or in the studio. The whole thing is epoxy-potted, which kills feedback and microphonic squeal — handy if you dig in hard or play at volume.
A quick fit note before you order: on original Fender J Basses, the neck and bridge pickups aren’t the same length. The neck pickup measures 3-5/8″ long, shorter than the 3-3/4″ bridge pickup. Some modern basses instead use two long, bridge-length pickups — if that’s your bass, you’ll want the LN (long neck) version made specifically for that position, not this short-neck model. A few basses use two short pickups instead. Bottom line: measure your existing neck pickup before buying to make sure this is the correct physical fit for your bass.
