Description
If you’ve been chasing a heavier, more foundational voice out of your Jazz Bass, the Bartolini 9S-L set is worth a serious look. These are single-coil replacements built specifically for J Bass routing, and they’re widely regarded by working bassists and luthiers as the deepest-sounding option in Bartolini’s original J-pickup family. That extra low-end weight makes them a strong fit for players who want their bass to sit heavier in the mix without losing note definition.
Like the rest of Bartolini’s Original Series, these are passive pickups cast in epoxy — a construction method that kills unwanted microphonics and feedback, so you get a clean, quiet signal even at stage volume.
One thing to know before you order: this is a ‘long’ bridge-length pickup. On a standard Fender J Bass, the neck pickup measures 3-5/8″ while the bridge pickup runs 3-3/4″ — they’re not interchangeable. Some modern builds use two long bridge-length pickups instead, and in that case you’d need the LN (long neck) version made for that position rather than a standard bridge pickup. A few basses even run two short neck-length pickups. Bottom line — measure what’s currently in your bass before ordering so the replacement drops in without routing work.
