Description
Some gigs need old-school growl, others need modern clarity, and the Active P Bass Special is built for bassists who don’t want to choose. Fender took the Precision Bass body in alder and mated it to a maple Jazz Bass neck (Modern C shape) with a rosewood or maple fingerboard, 20 medium jumbo frets, and a 9.5″ radius that keeps things fast and comfortable up and down the neck.
The pickup pairing is where this bass earns its “hybrid” label. A standard alnico split single-coil P Bass pickup sits in the middle for that unmistakable low-end foundation, while a dual-coil ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickup with nickel-plated pole pieces holds down the bridge for snap and clarity without the hum. A pan-pot lets you dial the blend on the fly instead of flipping switches mid-song.
Active electronics give you real shaping power: master volume, pan, and a 3-band active EQ with treble boost/cut (+/-10dB @ 8kHz), mid boost/cut (+10dB/-15dB @ 500Hz, wide band slope), and bass boost/cut (+/-12dB @ 40Hz, 4dB slope per octave). Whether you’re carving out room in a dense mix or fattening things up for a trio, the controls respond fast and predictably.
Rounding it out: chrome hardware, an American Vintage Precision Bass bridge, a side-mounted jack for a cleaner setup on stage, a beveled gold vinyl pickguard, and a deluxe gig bag to get it there and back.
