This signature model hands you his exact recipe: an alder body, modern C-shaped maple neck, and an unlined ebony fingerboard that lets your fingers do the intonating instead of a fret slot. Side dots sit right at the fret locations, so you can still find your way around fast without breaking the fretless feel.
Where this bass gets interesting is the pickup pairing. A Tony Franklin split single-coil Precision pickup handles the growl and thump, while his signature Jazz Bass bridge pickup — with hex-screw pole pieces and ceramic bar magnets — adds bite and clarity up top. A 3-way blade switch lets you flip between P alone, J alone, or both blended, so you’re covering Rush-style lead lines and deep dub grooves off the same instrument. Simple master volume and tone controls keep it gig-friendly under pressure.
Vintage-style touches round it out: ’70s-stamped open-gear tuners, a synthetic bone nut, and an American Vintage ’70s bridge with single-groove saddles for that old-school low-end character. A Hipshot Bass Xtender on the E string gives you instant drop-D access without retuning mid-set. It ships strung with Tony Franklin’s own signature NPS strings (.045-.105), and the neck plate carries his engraved signature — a nice reminder of whose tone you’re chasing.
