The ’70s were when the Jazz Bass got moody and mid-forward – a little more bite up top, a little more attitude in the low mids, and suddenly every session player on the planet wanted one under their hands. Slap technique found its home here too. This American Original ’70s reissue brings that voice back honestly, right down to the Pure Vintage ’75 single-coil pickups: enamel-coated coil wire, cloth-covered leads, fiber bobbins, alnico 5 magnets – the whole period-correct recipe, not just the look.
Where it quietly improves on the original is playing feel. The ’70s U-shaped neck carries real mass and vintage character, but Fender put a 9.5″ fingerboard radius under your fingers instead of the flatter vintage curve, so bends and fast lines feel more natural without losing that old-school hand-fill. Vintage-tall frets, period-correct body radii, and vintage-style hardware (including the 4-saddle bridge) round out the authenticity – this isn’t a reissue in name only.
Ash body, maple neck and maple board, 3-Color Sunburst gloss urethane finish, pearloid block inlays, bone nut, black plastic knobs on the classic 3-ply black/white/black guard. It ships loaded with Fender USA Bass 7250M strings (.045-.105) and comes housed in a vintage-style hardshell case – because a bass built to gig should travel like one.
