Description
This is the bass that grew up alongside disco and funk, when players started slapping strings and demanding more growl out of their J-Basses. Fender’s American Original series recreates that era faithfully, but smooths out the playing feel with a modern 9.5″ fingerboard radius so your hand isn’t fighting the neck while you’re chasing that vintage bark.
The heart of the tone is the pair of Pure Vintage ’75 single-coil pickups, wound with enamel-coated wire and wrapped in cloth-covered leads, sitting on fiber bobbins with alnico 5 magnets – the same recipe Fender used decades ago. Paired with an ash body and a maple neck carved in the ’70s U shape, you get that classic midrange growl with just enough treble edge to cut through a mix, whether you’re fingerstyle or digging in with your thumb.
Details that matter to gigging players: vintage-tall frets for easier bending and slides, a bone nut, vintage-style tuning machines and a four-saddle bridge with single-groove saddles for solid intonation, and a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard that nails the look. It ships in a vintage-style hardshell case, ready for the van.
