Description
The JS2P Spectra Bass takes the offset shape somewhere new, and the design choices actually pay off on a strap. That poplar burl top sits over a poplar body with a big upper horn, and the balance point lands right where you want it – no fighting neck dive through a three-hour set. The bolt-on maple neck uses a scarf joint for stability, and the speed neck carve paired with a 12" radius laurel board and 24 jumbo frets means fast lines and big stretches feel natural instead of forced.
Where this bass gets interesting is the pickup pairing: a P-style neck pickup for that thick, thumping foundation, paired with a J-style bridge pickup for growl and cut. Blend them however the song demands – deep and round for gospel and funk, aggressive and biting for rock. The hardtail bridge locks down sustain and adds some low-end weight of its own.
Controls are simple but smart – volume, blend, and a bass boost, with a push/pull switch on the volume knob that lets you bypass the active circuit entirely. That means dead battery mid-gig isn’t a dealbreaker; pull the knob and you’re back in passive mode, still making noise.
Finished in Black Burst with black hardware and a 2×2 black headstock carrying a subtle J logo, the JS2P looks as understated as it sounds versatile. A 4-string workhorse that doesn’t ask you to spend big to get real tone options and real playing comfort.
