Fuzz on bass gets a bad rap for turning low end to mush, but a well-built Fuzz Face circuit can actually thicken a bass tone with grit while keeping the note’s core intact — and that’s exactly the territory this EJ-F1 lives in. Eric Johnson developed it alongside Fuzz Face specialist Jeorge Tripps, chasing the sound of his own vintage units rather than a generic reissue. Hand-selected BC183 silicon transistors give it higher gain and a touch more sensitivity than stock circuits, so digging in with your fingers or a pick changes the fuzz’s character in real time — useful for players who want the pedal to react to touch dynamics, not just flip a switch between clean and fuzzed.
Cosmetically it wears repro ’68-’69 knobs and a vintage hammertone finish, keeping the look as period-correct as the circuit inside.

Power
Runs on a single 9V battery, accessed by unscrewing the bottom plate. Unplug your cable from the input when it’s not in use to keep the battery from draining.
