Description
If your Stingray’s stock electronics feel like they’re holding back the low end, this is the fix bass players actually reach for. The SMB-4DS pairs Seymour Duncan’s ceramic Music Man-style humbucker with the STC3M3 three-band preamp, dropping straight into 4-string Stingrays that use the 3-knob control layout.
The pickup itself is built by hand in Santa Barbara using two large ceramic bar magnets, Forbon flatwork, and 4-conductor wiring, then vacuum wax potted so it stays quiet at gig volume. What you get out of it is that unmistakable Music Man growl – aggressive midrange bite backed by a wider, tighter frequency spread than a stock pickup delivers. Slap, dig in, or lay back on a groove and the response feels more immediate under your fingers.
Paired with the STC3M3’s surgical 3-band EQ, you’re not stuck with one flavor of tone. Scoop the mids for a modern slap sound, push the bass for a fatter fingerstyle low end, or dial in a flatter response for recording – the preamp gives you the control to shape it live instead of fighting the amp.
- Complete drop-in electronics upgrade for 4-string Music Man Stingray basses with 3-knob controls
