Description
Every bassist who’s hauled a cabinet up three flights of stairs knows the appeal of the SansAmp RBI: it’s the sound of a great bass rig without the back pain. Built on the same Tube Amplifier Emulation circuitry that made the SansAmp Bass Driver DI a studio staple, the RBI expands on it with a full set of rack-mounted controls tailored specifically for low end.
Drive and Presence let you dial in everything from clean warmth to gritty growl, while active Bass and Treble controls plus a dedicated Mid knob (all ±12dB) give you real EQ shaping power, not just tone-shaping suggestions. Blend the emulated tube signal against your dry instrument tone until it sits exactly right. There’s a separate XLR Output Level control so your DI output plays nicely with whatever PA you’re plugged into that night, and a buffered, unaffected XLR out for sending a clean dry signal down a separate channel when needed.
The Effects Loop, switchable between series and parallel (50/50 mix), opens the door to outboard processing without disturbing your core tone. Footswitch inputs let you engage the unit on the fly, and a footswitch output lets you chain a second RBI for instant tone switching mid-set.
Whatever your setup looks like, the RBI adapts to it:
- Walk into a session with just the RBI and go straight into the board—no cab, no mic, no fuss.
- Run direct to the house PA for a gig without bringing an amp at all.
- Pair it with a power amp and cabinet for a more traditional rig, still feeding the PA via XLR.
At 19″w x 1.5″h x 5.25″d (6.25″ overall depth) and just 5 lbs, it takes up almost no rack space for the tonal range it delivers. For bass players who want studio-grade, amp-in-a-box flexibility they can actually gig with, the RBI earns its spot as a near-essential piece of gear.
