If you love the growl of a Jazz Bass but wish it dug deeper, the 9J1-L/S set is built for exactly that. This original series pair uses Bartolini’s dual in-line coil design to cancel hum while delivering a tone that leans into strong lows and low-mid punch rather than shrill highs. Everything is passive and cast in epoxy, so squeal and microphonics stay out of the mix even under stage volume and heat.
Sizing matters here, and Bartolini gets it right for a true vintage-style J setup: the neck pickup measures 3-5/8″ while the bridge pickup is 3-3/4″ long, matching the classic unequal-length layout found in most original J Basses. If your bass instead uses two long (bridge-length) pickups, make sure to grab the correct “LN” long-neck version for that position — don’t force a standard bridge pickup into a long-neck slot. A small number of basses run two short neck-length pickups instead, so measure your existing set before ordering to guarantee a clean fit.
This bundle pairs the pickups with Bartolini’s HR3.4/918 pre-wired harness, cutting out the tedious job of soldering pots and a preamp into your control cavity yourself. The harness runs a 3-band EQ built around a Neck Volume/Bridge Volume stack and a Treble/Bass stack plus Mid control with a 2-frequency push-pull switch, giving you real shaping power on the fly. It ships with a second battery clip for an optional 18V setup, wiring instructions, and black ring plus center knobs for the tone stack.
