This is Bartolini’s original series passive pickup set, sized for the standard J Bass routing with a ‘long’ pickup for the bridge and a ‘short’ for the neck — matching the classic asymmetrical J Bass layout (3-3/4″ bridge, 3-5/8″ neck). Dual in-line coils cancel hum without gutting the tone, so you get that deep, low-mid-forward growl bassists chase without the 60-cycle buzz getting in the way. Each pickup is epoxy-potted to kill microphonics, so stage volume and aggressive playing won’t introduce unwanted noise.
Before ordering, double check your current pickups’ physical length — some modern J Bass builds run two long (bridge-length) pickups, in which case you’d want the dedicated LN neck version rather than this L/S set. Measure twice, solder once.
This set ships bundled with Bartolini’s HR-3.3/918 pre-wired harness, so the tedious part of the job is already done. The harness runs a 2-band EQ preamp with a Treble/Bass stacked tone control and a Volume/Blend layout requiring just two pot holes plus one for tone — a clean, minimal-drilling option if you’re upgrading an existing cavity. It includes a second battery clip for 18V operation and wiring instructions, so you can wire it up with confidence even if this is your first electronics swap.
