Description

Five strings shouldn’t mean giving up the tone that made Jazz basses legendary. The SJ5B-70/74 is Seymour Duncan’s answer for extended-range players who still want that vintage growl, warmth, and articulate midrange bite in every note — including the low B.

  • Vintage output single coil, voiced after a great ’62 Jazz Bass
  • Coil geometry and winding reworked specifically for 5-string response, so the classic J-tone doesn’t thin out on the low end
  • Fits traditional Fender 5-string Jazz bass cover routing (for modern Jazz V models, Seymour Duncan’s 6770 is the correct fit)
  • Bridge position placement for that snap and growl players lean on for slap, pick, and aggressive fingerstyle work
  • Ships with a black cover
  • Pairs with the 7074 neck model for a matched set
  • Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA using hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets and Forbon flatwork
  • Vacuum wax potted to keep squeal and microphonic noise out of your signal, even under stage volume and heat

This isn’t a generic 5-string adaptation — Duncan actually rethought the coil to keep that subtle attack and mid growl consistent as you stretch the range downward. If your 5-string Jazz has felt a little flat or hollow on the low B compared to its 4-string siblings, this bridge pickup is built to close that gap and give you the tone you actually plugged in for.
