Description
If you’ve ever chased that elusive blend of vintage warmth and modern punch, the Delano JC4 AL is worth a serious look. This bridge-position single coil drops straight into any standard Jazz Bass™ routing, using the industry-standard four-string shell size, so it’s a plug-and-play upgrade for most J-style basses without any surgery required.
Delano didn’t just copy an old pickup and call it done. They dug into vintage JB™ units spanning 1960 through 1977, studying what made early-sixties pickups sing with that woody low-mid growl and articulate midrange, then cross-referencing it against the funkier twang found in later-seventies examples. The JC4 AL splits the difference and then pushes further, adding a touch more low-end depth and top-end sparkle on top of that classic foundation.
The payoff on the bass side is a bridge pickup that covers serious ground: old-school R&B warmth when you dig in with your fingers, and aggressive slap tone with real bite when you need it to cut through a mix. It’s the kind of pickup that adapts to your playing rather than forcing you into one lane.
