If you love the natural push of a passive bass but want a bit more shaping power without wrecking that tone, the Delano Sonar 3MS/E is built for exactly that mindset. It’s a tight, active EQ that stays out of the way until you need it, then gives you real control over bottom, mids, and top without smearing your pickup’s voice into mush.
The standout feature is the external mid-selection: a three-position toggle wired right into your control cavity lets you dial between 300 Hz, 500 Hz, or 800 Hz on the fly, so you can go from round and woody to aggressive and cutting depending on the song, room, or band mix. Bass sits at 40 Hz and treble at 6.5 KHz, giving you a full-range EQ that still leaves plenty of headroom before things get harsh.
Delano built this preamp with matched band-pass filters and separate amp stages, so turning a knob doesn’t throw the rest of your tone out of balance. Set flat, it’s genuinely hard to tell from full passive – which is the point. It’s meant to feel like an extension of your bass, not a layer on top of it.
The whole thing lives in a sealed, slim housing that’s easy to fit into tight control cavities and keeps it electrically isolated from your other wiring. Power draw is low enough that you’ll barely think about battery life on gig night.
