Description
If you love the offset-pole-piece snarl of a traditional J-Bass but can’t stand the hum, the EMG-JV set is EMG’s answer. They took cues from old-school design, newer construction methods, and later EMG refinements to land on a pickup that keeps that familiar “faded” attack while running through one of the quietest preamps EMG builds. It’s a pickup for players who want the retro voice on stage without the retro noise floor.
Tonally, this is still very much a Jazz Bass pickup at heart — that scooped, slightly softened top-end bite from the staggered poles is there, but the active electronics tighten up the low end and give you more headroom to dig in without the signal falling apart. Great for players who gig loud rooms and need consistency over vintage-correct hum.
