Description
Rob Turner, the guy who started EMG, designed the JV52-HZ to give jazz bass players the vintage growl they chase without the 60-cycle hum that usually comes with it. This is a passive set, so you’re getting the natural dynamics and touch-sensitivity players expect from a J-bass — the pickups just react to how you dig in, roll off, or slap without any active circuitry coloring the signal.
The trick is in the magnet pairing: Alnico 5 poles in the neck pickup, Alnico 2 in the bridge. That combo opens up the harmonic content and gives you a wider window to work with on your EQ, whether you’re going for round and warm or clanky and aggressive. Because the coils sit side by side, they cancel hum between them — so you get that early-to-late-70s vintage voice on stage without the noise floor creeping up under fluorescent lights or bad power.
Installation is solderless, so swapping these in doesn’t mean digging out the iron or risking a cold joint mid-project. Everything you need to wire the set is in the box:
- 2x 250k volume pots
- 1x 250k tone pot
- 1x mono output jack
- 4 pairs of mounting screws
- 1 bridge ground connector
- 2 pickup cables
- 2 connect cables
- 1 output cable
- 1 bridge ground wire
Finished in black, this set is built for players who want the classic J-bass character on a quiet, gig-ready foundation.
