Some rigs make you choose between vintage Ampeg voice and a back that still works the next morning. This pairing doesn’t. The PF-800 head packs genuine Portaflex tone-shaping into a chassis that weighs under 12 lbs, so the heavy lifting gets left to the cab where it belongs.
Under the hood it’s a MOSFET preamp driving a Class D power section, pushing a full 800 watts at 4 ohms. Dial it in with bass, treble, and a 5-position mid control, then push the Ultra Hi and Ultra Lo boosts when you need extra edge or sub-weight for a room that’s swallowing your low end. The onboard compressor keeps slap and finger-style dynamics under control without a separate pedal, and a balanced direct out with pre/post EQ switching means front of house gets a clean signal no matter how you’ve sculpted your tone onstage. Round it out with an FX loop with its own mix knob, foot-switchable mute, headphone/line jacks, and both -15dB and -40dB pads for hot basses or line-level sources.
Feeding that head is the PF-410HLF, a shelf-ported enclosure built in the same black diamond tolex and B-15 grille cloth as the classic Portaflex look. Four ceramic Eminence 10″ drivers handle the low end while a selectable 1″ HF compression driver adds top-end clarity without turning harsh — useful whether you’re playing pick, fingers, or slap-heavy lines. It’s rated to handle the full 800 watts from the head, built from 15mm poplar ply, and fitted with side handles and removable casters so getting it in and out of the van doesn’t require a second person.
