If your P-Bass needs more low-end weight and a fatter low-mid growl than a modern hot pickup can give you, the Bartolini 8S is built for that job. It’s a direct Fender P-Bass replacement voiced with vintage character in mind — more low and low-mid presence, and a somewhat lower output than the 8CBP, so notes bloom rather than bark. Like all Bartolini split-coils, the two coil halves overlap by 3/4″ (19mm) for that classic P-Bass push without any weird phase holes in the sound.
These are original-series passive pickups, epoxy-potted to kill microphonics and unwanted feedback — so cranking your rig or standing near a monitor won’t turn your bass into a howling mess on stage.
Paired here with Bartolini’s HR-2.2AP/918 pre-wired harness, this bundle skips the tedious part of pickup swaps: hand-wiring a preamp and pots into tight control cavities. The harness comes loaded with Bartolini’s own preamp electronics and audio-grade pots that feel smooth under your fingers and hold up to years of gigging and rehearsal abuse. Specs on the harness:
- 2-band EQ preamp circuit
- Single volume control hole, with an active/passive push-pull switch built into the pot
- Single tone control hole, stacked treble/bass knob
Basically: drop the pickup in, wire up the harness, and get back to playing instead of fighting your electronics cavity.
