This is the P/J combo Bartolini put together to solve the classic problem: how do you get a P pickup with real low-end punch to sit right next to a Jazz bridge pickup without one overpowering the other? The 8S handles neck duties with vintage-style voicing that leans into lows and low-mids, giving you that thick, woody P-bass foundation. Down at the bridge, the 9JL1 is a split-coil, hum-cancelling design wound for extra growl – close cousin to Bartolini’s older 94J, just a touch brighter, with stronger lows and low-mids than a typical vintage-flavored bridge pickup. Together they’re voiced to balance rather than fight each other.
To skip the wiring headaches, this set ships with Bartolini’s HR3.4/918 prewired harness. It’s built around a 3-band EQ preamp with a Neck Volume/Bridge Volume stack on one control and a Treble/Bass stack plus Mid (with 2-frequency push-pull) on another – so you get real tonal range without drilling extra holes in your bass. The harness comes with a 2nd battery clip for 18V operation, wiring instructions, and black ring and center knobs for the tone stack.
