Description
If you love the round, woody growl of a vintage J-Bass but wish it had a little more muscle, the DiMarzio Model J set is built for exactly that. These pickups keep the traditional Jazz Bass voice intact but push more power to the amp, giving the low end extra presence without losing that resonant, musical character bassists chase in a good J-Bass.
Fretless players take note: the sensitivity and depth here suit glissandos and vibrato beautifully. Roll off the tone knob a touch and you get a warm, vocal, almost violin-like quality that’s tough to find in a standard humbucking bass pickup. Want more tonal range? Drop a DiMarzio Model P in the neck position alongside a Model J in the bridge — the P’s fat low end paired with the J’s tighter punch covers a lot of sonic ground.
The DP123 set is sized to match the original Fender Jazz Bass routing, where the neck and bridge cavities aren’t the same length — this set includes a shorter neck pickup and a longer bridge pickup. If your bass uses matched-length cavities instead, DiMarzio also sells these individually as DP123S (short) and DP123L (long).
