Every bassist knows a bad compressor when they hear it — that lifeless, clamped-down tone that sucks the punch right out of your notes. The EBS MultiComp does the opposite. It’s been the go-to studio-in-a-box for bass players since 1998, and it earns that reputation by staying out of your way while quietly making everything you play sound tighter and more consistent.
Dialing it in takes seconds. One knob sets Comp/Limit, another sets Gain, and a mode switch lets you choose between three flavors of squeeze: Normal for straightforward analog compression, Tubeism for warm tube-style saturation, and Multi Band for independent control over how the highs and lows get compressed — huge for slap players or anyone fighting an uneven low B string. Want to go deeper? Flip the side-mounted Active/Passive switch to match your instrument, or crack the hood and trim the internal Threshold pot to taste.
The current build carries forward the improvements EBS made in 2008 — 3 dB more headroom, better sensitivity, lower noise, and true bypass — plus the Studio Edition updates from 2015: an optimized signal path, relay-based switching, protection up to 18V, and flexible 9-12V DC power.
