Originally built into the old EBS Taurus combo before becoming its own stompbox in 1992, the OctaBass has quietly anchored the low end for players like Tony Levin, Marcus Miller, Roger Glover, and Tal Wilkenfeld. This Studio Edition keeps that pedigree intact while reworking the signal path, switching, and power tolerance for modern rigs.
At its core, the OctaBass tracks your played note — even two or three-note chords, locking onto the lowest one — and generates a clean sub-octave beneath it. Three range settings (High, Mid, Low) shape the character of that added note, and separate controls for normal and octave volume let you blend it to taste. Play up on the higher frets and dial in a subtle sub-note for solo work, or stack it ahead of a drive pedal for a huge, clean-triggered low end. Pair it with an EBS BassIQ in Down mode and you’ve got a surprisingly convincing synth-bass tone.
The Studio Edition upgrades include an optimized signal path, new relay-based true bypass switching, overvoltage protection up to 18V, and flexible 9-12V DC operation.
