Description
Geezer Butler didn’t hand his name to just anyone. It took EMG founder Rob Turner years of back-and-forth, starting in 2011, to nail down the tone Geezer had in his head from the earliest Black Sabbath sessions — then more testing through actual tour dates in 2013 before it was locked in for good.
This is that pickup: a solderless, passive P-bass set voiced the old way but wound to hold up on modern stages. Alnico 5 pole pieces pair with custom-wound coils to give you punch on top and grit underneath, without losing the tight, deep low end that made Geezer’s tone instantly recognizable. Drop into any P-Bass and you’re pulling from the same well as “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” and “Paranoid” — that early-70s growl, minus the tape hiss.
- Signature design developed directly with Geezer Butler
- Passive, solderless installation
- Alnico 5 magnets
- Custom-wound coils tuned for classic P-bass punch and grit
- Voiced for deep, tight low end in the Geezer Butler tradition
Geezer himself put it simply: “I never felt comfortable giving my name to any other pickups, but this time these have blown me away.” If you’ve spent years chasing that exact low-end snarl on a P-Bass, this is the shortcut — no other pickups, no compromise.
