The P5J takes EMG’s proven P/J formula and stretches it to fit a 5-string neck properly, so your low B doesn’t get shortchanged. You’re getting a full-size P pickup for that deep, punchy foundation, paired with a single LJ unit in the bridge position for midrange definition and top-end sparkle. Together they cover a lot of ground – dig in for aggressive slap runs, or roll back and settle into a warm, rounded Motown-style groove.
Because it’s active, output stays hot and consistent no matter how hard you play, with none of the hum or tone loss you’d fight with passive pickups. Run the P and LJ together or solo them independently for two distinct voices out of one bass.
Heads up: the bridge Jazz pickup is standard length at 3.75 inches, built for a max string width of 2.75 inches – worth double-checking against your bass before ordering.
