Not every amp in this shop is for bass, and the Hot Rod DeVille 212 IV is one of those — a guitar combo through and through. Still, if you’re the bassist hunting down gear for your guitarist (or your own pedalboard side project), this one’s a proven workhorse worth knowing.
Fender rebuilt this version after hearing feedback straight from gigging players. The preamp circuitry got reworked for cleaner definition when the gain’s pushed hard, and the onboard spring reverb was smoothed out so it stays shimmery instead of splashy at higher settings. Under the hood you’ve got two 6L6 power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes driving a pair of 12" Celestion A-Type speakers, putting out 60 watts with a tonal spread that stays balanced — smooth top end, laid-back mids, and lows that stay full and round instead of flabby.
The cabinet’s lightweight pine, wrapped in black textured vinyl with a lightly-aged silver grille cloth, ivory chicken-head knobs, and a steel-reinforced strap handle — the classic Fender look and feel. Two 1/4" inputs (the second running at -6dB) make it pedal-friendly for whoever’s plugging in.
