Description
Every bassist hits a point where the stock wiring just doesn’t give enough range — this is Fender’s answer. The S-1 Switch is a genuine 250K control pot with a built-in push-switch, letting you reconfigure your P-Bass or Jazz Bass’s electronics on the fly without swapping pickups or routing new cavities. Fender introduced this design back in 2003 as a factory upgrade on American and American Deluxe instruments, and it’s still one of the cleanest ways to add tonal flexibility to a passive bass.
Push the pot in and you activate one of four internal switching stages, so depending on how you wire it, you can set up simple on/off switching (SPST), coil-tapping (DPDT), or dual-coil tapping across humbucking pickups (4PDT). If you’re building out a Strat-style setup too, this pairs nicely with Fender’s 5-Position Super Switch (p/n 0992251000) for even more combinations.
Specs worth knowing before you wire it in:
- Genuine Fender 250K pot with solid shaft
- 3/8″ diameter shaft
- Set-screw mounting knobs only — no split-shaft knobs will fit
- Switch knob, cap, and coupling sleeve are not included and sold separately
Solder this in during your next pickguard-off session and you’ll have a bass that covers more ground than it did on day one — same body, same neck, more tone on tap.
