Description
If you’ve spent years chasing that mid-’60s J Bass bark on a modern instrument, this is the shortcut. Fender re-voiced the pair of single-coil Jazz Bass pickups specifically to recapture the gritty, honking tone that made the original run famous — the kind of low-end character that cuts through a mix without losing its warmth.
The neck is where this bass really earns its “vintage” name. It’s carved to the “Mid ’60s C” profile with a 7.25″ fingerboard radius and 20 vintage-style frets, so it plays like it’s fresh off the truck from 1964 — rounder in the palm, a little more work under the fingers, and full of that old-school feedback that helps you dial in your touch. Pau ferro on the board adds a smooth, slightly darker feel than maple, letting the pickups’ natural grit come through unfiltered.
Hardware-wise, everything is there to keep this bass gigging reliably night after night:
- 34″ scale length for standard bass tension and familiar feel
- Vintage-style 4-saddle bridge with threaded saddles for solid intonation and string stability
- Reverse, open-gear tuning machines that echo the original ’60s look while holding pitch under stage lights
- Chrome hardware and a 4-bolt neck plate for classic aesthetics and dependable neck-to-body coupling
Finished in 3-Color Sunburst, it looks the part as much as it sounds it. A deluxe gig bag is included, so you’re covered from the practice room to the club.
