Description
The Genzler Magellan MG-800 is built for the bassist who’s tired of choosing between power and portability. At 800 watts into 4 ohms (or 2.67 ohms) and 400 watts into 8 ohms, this thing genuinely delivers — yet the whole chassis tips the scale at only 6.25 lbs, so it disappears into a gig bag pocket and still handles arena-sized rooms.
Under the hood you get a dual-channel preamp: a Clean side that stays pristine and transparent for players who want their instrument’s true voice up front, and a Drive channel that leans into a more harmonically driven signature with a softer top end for players chasing weight and grit in the low end. Flip between them or blend to taste.
The dual-curve Variable Contour circuitry is where the tone-shaping really lives — Curve A scoops mids for classic-to-modern sounds, Curve B bumps the low-mids with a tapered top for a thicker, vintage feel, and Flat gives you full bypass when you just want the truth. Add an active 3-band EQ with parametric mid control, and you’ve got precise shaping without ever losing the feel of the notes.
Practical touches matter on the road: a signal mute switch for silent tuning or swaps, an input pad for hot-output basses, thermal-sensing variable speed fan cooling that keeps quiet at idle, and a universal power supply that lets you plug in anywhere in the world without flipping a voltage switch. The chassis itself is brushed aircraft-grade aluminum with an extruded aluminum front panel — built to survive van life.
