Description
If you’re chasing that thumpy, woody low end that made P-Basses the backbone of countless recordings, the SPB-1 is built to get you there. It’s a direct reproduction of Fender’s original 1957 dual-coil design — hand-fabricated forbon bobbins, plain enamel wire, and hand-ground sand-cast magnets, all doing what they’ve always done: warm, punchy fundamentals with just enough grit to sit right in a mix. Pair it with the SJB-1B in the bridge and you get a true single-coil voice that adds snap and definition without turning brittle. The hand-ground Alnico 5 magnets and moderate wind keep the top end articulate while the body stays full, so slap, fingerstyle, or pick playing all come through clean.
Both pickups ship with waxed cloth hookup cable and non-logo covers, keeping the vintage look intact for players who care about the details as much as the tone. Want more control over the blend? These are commonly paired with an STC-2 or STC-3 tone circuit for a more complete tonal setup, though that’s a separate add-on.
To get your bass road-ready right out of the box, this bundle throws in a set of Ernie Ball 2834 Super Slinky Bass strings. Wound for a bright, balanced response, they’re made fresh in California’s Coachella Valley and gauged .045/.065/.080/.100 — a solid all-around set that plenty of touring and studio players already rely on.
