Description
This is a demo unit of the Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH V, and it’s ready to earn its keep on a stage rather than sit pretty in a case. Fender took the familiar J Bass silhouette and pushed it forward with an ash body, matching gloss headstock, and black chrome hardware that gives the whole instrument a stealthy, no-nonsense look.
Where this bass really sets itself apart is under the hood. A pair of Squier SQR ceramic humbuckers deliver a thicker, higher-output voice than a traditional Jazz Bass, with enough clarity to cut through a dense mix or sit fat in a pocket-driven groove. The active 9-volt preamp puts real tone-shaping power in your hands: master volume, pickup blend, a traditional tone control, and stacked bass/treble boost let you dial in everything from a scooped slap tone to a growling, mid-forward rock sound on the fly.
Playability gets just as much attention. The slim, modern
