Description
The Ray4 is the entry point into that classic Music Man low-end snarl, and this Honeyburst Satin finish gives it a warm, vintage-leaning look to match the tone. If you’ve ever wanted the StingRay attitude without the StingRay price tag, this is where you start.
Under the hood is a high-output humbucking pickup with two rows of large pole pieces, feeding a 2-band active preamp. That combo gets you honest, uncolored reproduction of the string signal with real headroom to push bass and treble hard in either direction — scoop it out for a slap-friendly snap, or push the low end for a chest-thumping foundation. The pickup’s 3-screw mounting lets you fine-tune angle and height so the pole pieces track your string spacing precisely.
Where this bass earns its keep on stage is the neck joint. Music Man’s 6-bolt design locks the neck to the body far more securely than a standard 4-bolt setup, so tone transfer stays tight and the neck won’t shift on you mid-set, even under heavy attack. The heel is carved for easy upper-fret access too, so reaching those higher positions doesn’t mean fighting the instrument.
Truss rod tweaks are just as gig-friendly — a thumbwheel adjuster at the end of the fingerboard lets you dial in relief with a small screwdriver or the included chrome bar, no string removal required. And when the 9-volt powering the preamp finally taps out, the rear battery door makes swaps quick between sets.
