Description
Sterling’s take on the StingRay5 doesn’t water down what made the original famous — that punchy, aggressive low-end growl with enough top-end bite to cut through a mix. It’s powered by a single ceramic humbucker feeding a 2-band active preamp (runs on a 9v), so you get real EQ control on stage rather than just tone-knob rolloff. Whether you’re slapping, fingerstyle, or digging in with a pick, this pickup/preamp combo stays articulate and low-noise.
Under the Walnut Satin finish sits a basswood body paired with a hard maple neck and a Jatoba fingerboard — a combo that keeps the attack snappy without going harsh. The 34″ scale and 12″ fingerboard radius feel familiar in your hand, and the 1.77″ nut width gives that extra fifth string room to breathe without turning the neck into a plank. 22 medium frets get you full range up top, and the neck locks to the body with 6 bolts for a tight, stable low-end transfer.
Other details that matter when you’re actually gigging:
- Fully adjustable heavy-duty fixed bridge for solid intonation and string spacing control
- Open gear tuning machines for smooth, precise tuning
- Single-action truss rod for straightforward neck adjustments
- Black pickguard for a clean, classic StingRay look
- Strung .45-1.25 out of the box
If you’ve been eyeing a five-string StingRay but wanted it at a more approachable price point, this is the one to plug in and play.
