Description
If you want the Music Man-family Ray attitude without the Ray34 price tag, this Sterling Ray4 SUB Series bass in Black is a solid used pickup for your rig. It’s a no-nonsense 4-string built to work — punchy, direct, and honest about its role: get low, stay low, sit in the pocket.
The high-output humbucker is the heart of this bass. Two rows of large pole pieces grab string vibration and feed it straight into the onboard 2-band active preamp, so you’ve got real cut-and-boost control over bass and treble — enough range to go from round and fat to aggressive and biting depending on what the song calls for. The 3-screw pickup mount lets you dial in height and angle to match your string set precisely.
Under the hood it’s built the way a working bassist wants: a solid hardwood body, a 34″ full-scale maple neck with medium jumbo frets and a satin-tinted finish, and a narrow 38mm nut that’s friendly to fast hands. The 6-bolt neck joint — a Music Man design — locks the neck in tight for solid tone transfer and zero shifting under heavy playing. Truss rod adjustments are simple too: a thumbwheel at the end of the fingerboard means quick tweaks with a small screwdriver or included chrome bar, no string removal, no fuss.
Runs on a single 9V battery with an easily accessible compartment on the back — unplug between sets and you’ll get months of use out of it.
