Description
Don’t let the size fool you — the PF-20T carries all the harmonic depth and low-end character that made the original Portaflex heads a staple on stages and in studios. Built around a pair of 12AX7 preamp tubes and 6V6 power tubes, it delivers 20 watts of genuine tube saturation that responds to your playing dynamics the way solid-state amps just can’t fake. Dig in and you’ll feel the compression bloom; play soft and the notes stay clean and articulate.
Ampeg made the maintenance side painless too. A user-adjustable bias control means swapping tubes is a straightforward job rather than a trip to a tech, so you can keep this thing gigging for years. And since it doesn’t require a speaker load to operate, you can run it silently into a DI or interface for late-night recording sessions, or use it as a dedicated tube DI box when you need that Ampeg color without the volume.
Both preamp and transformer-balanced direct outs give you flexibility for front-of-house or home recording, with pre/post EQ options and ground lift switches to keep things quiet and clean. Bass, Mid, and Treble controls plus an input gain knob let you dial in everything from round and vintage to punchy and aggressive.
