Description
Every bass player who’s chased that elusive J-bass growl knows the bridge pickup does the heavy lifting on low mids and punch. The Bartolini 59S72-L is the ‘long’ replacement pickup made for the bridge position on a 5-string Jazz Bass, and it’s built to deliver deep, strong lows with a solid low-mid presence that cuts through a band mix without turning muddy.
This is part of Bartolini’s Classic Bass (CB) series — passive pickups voiced with an extended frequency range so you get more air and definition up top while keeping that low-end weight intact. The dual in-line coil design cancels hum, so you’re not fighting 60-cycle buzz on stage or in the studio. Bartolini casts these in epoxy too, which kills unwanted feedback and microphonic noise — important when you’re standing next to a loud amp or a wedge full of drums.
One thing every J-bass owner should double-check before ordering: pickup length matters here. On a standard Jazz Bass, the neck pickup runs 3-5/8″ and the bridge pickup is slightly longer at 3-3/4″. This 59S72-L is a ‘long’ pickup meant for the bridge slot. Some modern J-style basses use two long pickups instead of the traditional mismatched pair — if that’s your setup, make sure you’re pairing this with the correct ‘LN’ long-neck pickup for the neck position rather than another bridge unit. Measure your existing pickups before you buy to be sure of a clean fit.
