Description
If your Jazz Bass neck pickup sounds a little dull or muddy, the Bartolini 9CBJD-S3 is built to fix exactly that. It’s a direct-fit replacement for the neck position on a standard Fender Jazz Bass, and it’s earned a loyal following among players and repair techs who want more clarity up top without losing the weight down low.
Inside, it uses a dual in-line coil design that cancels hum the way a traditional single-coil never could, so you get quiet, professional-grade output on stage or in the studio. As part of Bartolini’s passive Classic Bass (CB) series, it’s voiced with an extended frequency range that pulls more air and detail out of your top end while keeping the lows and low-mids solid underneath. The coils are epoxy-potted, which keeps microphonic squeal and unwanted feedback out of the equation entirely.
One thing worth double-checking before you order: J Bass neck and bridge pickups aren’t the same length. This 9CBJD-S3 is the short 3-5/8" version made specifically for the neck slot, while the bridge pickup runs slightly longer at 3-3/4". Some newer basses swap in a long-neck (LN) pickup instead, and a few oddball builds use two short pickups. Measure what’s currently in your bass before buying so the new pickup drops in cleanly.
