Five-string Jazz basses have a real problem: that low B can get boomy and undefined while the rest of the strings stay bright and snappy. The Ultra Jazz 5 was built specifically to fix that. DiMarzio scaled up their Virtual Vintage design so it handles the wider string spacing and extended low end without losing the growl and clarity that made the original Ultra Jazz a favorite among 4-string players.
You still get the classic Jazz bark, but with dead-quiet hum cancellation and a frequency response that stays balanced from string to string. That B string finally sits in the mix with the same authority as the G, instead of turning to mud the moment you dig in.
These are wired for passive setups out of the box, so they’re a straightforward drop-in for players who like their tone raw and hands-on. But if your bass runs an active preamp, don’t worry — the Ultra Jazz 5 plays well with onboard electronics too, giving you room to shape the tone further without fighting the pickups.
