EMG built the 40JV5 specifically to solve that, taking the beloved JV pickup design and stretching it into their Extended Series 40 housing so every string, especially that low one, gets even magnetic coverage and stays articulate under your fingers or pick.
This is an active pickup, so you get EMG’s signature low-noise output paired with a tight, punchy low end and clear top-end snap — the kind of voice that cuts through a dense mix without needing to fight the EQ on your amp. It’s a Jazz Bass-style tone at its core, just scaled up and modernized for extended-range instruments and stages where headroom matters.
