The PJ-HZ set pairs EMG’s PHZ split-coil P pickup with the LJHZ single-coil J pickup, built for players who want that classic passive response but with a bit more output and clarity underneath. Ceramic magnets and steel poles give both pickups a wide, articulate sonic range — thick low-mids from the P side, cutting bite from the J — without losing the natural feel bassists expect from passive electronics.
Because these are direct replacements for standard Fender-style PJ configurations, dropping them into your P/J bass is straightforward. Every EMG passive pickup ships fully shielded to keep noise down, and the 5-wire quik-connect setup opens up several wiring options depending on how you want to configure your bass. Grounding your strings is recommended if you want to squeeze out even more hum.
